August brings to mind long summer days in my childhood spent at my Aunt’s (Evelyn Elizabeth Downs Piper) cottage on the shore of Lake Madison in South Dakota. Although the cottage remains in the family, many years have passed since those idyllic days spent reading, cooking, playing canasta and napping on the screened porch. Planning to spend the month ahead at home, I have created bits of cottage style to transport my mind back to the lake and to loved ones who surrounded me there.
